An overview of the performance and uses of electromagnetic sensors in engine and flight control systems is provided along with a comparison of the principle candidate optic sensing methods. A discussion of the optic sensor's design requirements to meet the control systems performance needs and practical issues are presented. This paper presents the performance of Allied Signal Controls and Accessories (ASCA) sensors and common electrooptic interfaces as well as the test data. It also qualifies the major benefits and limitations of optical position sensing technologies for use in engine and flight controls.<>
