The characteristics of longitudinal modes of Ince-Gaussian beams in diode-pumped solid state lasers when affected by temperature-dependent change of refractive index was studied. Explicit expressions for the change of refractive index when the laser crystal exposed to a top-hat radiation together with its effects on the longitudinal phase shift were derived. The derivations were applied to Nd:YVO/sub 4/ crystal and the variations of phase shift versus input power and laser pumping radius were investigated.
