Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming sustainable alternatives in the transportation sector. The shift towards electric mobility increases the requirement for suitable charging infrastructure. The charging speed depends on the electrical capacity of the charging infrastructure and not solely on the charging station. Large-scale penetration of EVs requires a steady rapid charging infrastructure for EVs. The impact of fast charging stations (FCS) on the utility grid is severe owing to the presence of semiconductor devices. The power quality issues affected to a larger extent due to FCS are voltage profile, harmonics, and transformer overloading. This paper presents the analysis of these power quality issues with the FCS developed according to the guidelines of the Government of India EV Policy using the framework of MATLAB/Simulink. Moreover, the simulation results acquired from the developed FCS are substantiated using real-time experiments on a Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) real-time simulator, OPAL-RT OP4510.
