Assuring semiconductor trust is arduous due to foundry complexity and lack of component transparency. It may help to forego the foundry in favor of surface-mount technology for certain uses. Progress is reported toward a 36-bit, 20 MIPS, open-source minicomputer built exclusively from commodity static RAM and trivial glue logic.
