Recently, interior permanent magnet synchronous machines have been discussed as a possible candidate for hybrid and electrical vehicles. These type of synchronous machines offers high efficiency and high torque by utilizing both magnetic torque and reluctance torque. The reluctance torque caused by the saliency of the machine is used to improve the efficiency and to exploit the full power of the traction drive. In this paper the maximum torque per ampere control strategy is applied on an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine.
