We analyze the bandwidth problem of the direct-drive-valve (DDV) flight-control actuation and present two new high-performance buck/boost servo amplifiers for driving the force motor (FM) in this system. The designed function of the presented circuit is to improve the response speed of the output current of the amplifier by temporarily boosting its output voltage. A nonlinear pulsewidth modulated (PWM) scheme is also presented to linearize the closed-loop control characteristics of the amplifier. Experimental results show that the system beamwidth is enlarged from originally 150 Hz to 500 Hz.<>
