In recent years, due to up-gradation of peoples life styles, industry revolutions, use of electric vehicles, expansion of commercial and domestic loads, lack of capital resources for up-gradation of existing electric infrastructure etc. are causing unreliable and poor operation of the electric networks. The soaring fuel prices and limitation on emission of green house gases, the renewable energy resources are gaining more attention. The effective harvesting of RES and their integration to existing network enhances the overall network performance. Currently, power transmission capacity is one of the bottlenecks of existing electrical infrastructure. Even though with sufficient power generation limitation in TTC of the grid unscheduled load shedding, poor quality supply are common problems faced by the consumers. The use of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) are enhances the power transfer capacity of the existing infrastructure up to certain extent. This will defers the new investments in up-gradation of electrical infrastructure. In this paper, optimal placement of STATCOM and TCSC are tested to select best site, number of devices and their combinations to increase overall reliability of the network.
