Paper aims to present a variant of hybrid propulsion train with energy storage in metal hydrides. Train propulsion is carried out by eight permanent magnet synchronous electric motors (PMSMs) mounted on bogies. The electric power required to drive these motors is provided by the existing electric railway network or the electric generator set fitted within the train, which is remarkable as it allows it to be used without restriction even in non-electrified railway network zones. The novelty of this paper consists in the fact that the diesel engine of the generator runs on hydrogen stored in metal hydride tanks on the gasket.
