We demonstrate novel metal-defined electro-optic polymer modulators for the first time. Phase modulators fabricated using this technique have a driving voltage of 5.6 V and an extinction ratio of /spl sim/18 dB at 1.55 /spl mu/m wavelength. This approach is a promising fabrication technique alternative for passive and EO polymer devices.
