This paper investigates various aspects related to profitability of a bus trip based on data recorded at the bus depot. The collected data has not been analyzed thoroughly enough but it is collected for regular operations related purposes only. The data used for this study is part of bus trip data maintained at MSRTC's Thane 2 Depot for the period of 3 months between January 2021 and March 2021. The data collected over the period is moderately big in size but it has a higher number of dimensions. The data can help to give insights about many factors that affect revenue generation for a bus trip like passenger behavior, some specifications about route, specifications related to the fleet of buses used etc. on a broader view. The work presented in this paper provides details about formulation of the model and demonstration of its capability to predict the route profitability for unseen data of new routes with the help of available data.
