Over the last two decades, airports worldwide have significantly ramped up security in response to emerging threats. Meanwhile, rising passenger expectations have put pressure on major airports to bolster throughput, cut queues and make boarding procedures as seamless as possible. However, the conventional time-consuming ways of security control become the bottleneck of boarding procedures. How to break through this bottleneck without compromise of enhanced security? The answer is to harness the power of new technologies, in particular biometric identification technology, advanced imaging technology, and CT technology for passenger’s baggage. Likewise, AI technology has been applied to the airport security. Some tech giants are rolling out super-smart body scanners and behavioral biometric technology in the coming years. Although new technologies aim to speed up and enhance airport security, they also generate wide spread public concerns. Specifically, these concerns address the potential of privacy, ethical and cyber security issues.
