Over the last decade there has been significant advancements in Vehicle to Everything (V2X). Accurate positioning of a vehicle is identified as one of the key requirements for V2X applications. Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), a widely used positioning technique, provides location information whose accuracy varies depending on chipset, environment, etc. Positional accuracy requirement also varies across V2X applications. However, the effect of GNSS values on V2X applications remains less explored. In this paper, we perform a detailed experimental analysis through simulations and real-world field tests to evaluate GNSS accuracy and its impact on V2X applications under various road environments, weather conditions, and different chipsets. Our results show that GNSS accuracy impacts the alerts generated by V2X applications, where lane-level applications require stricter accuracies while region-level applications can tolerate some GNSS errors. This research will assist OEMs and vendors in choosing V2X applications considering the hardware, technology, and cost.
