This work aims to model a drillship’s electrical system, including the power generation, propulsion loads and their respective control. With the intention of evaluating its suitability, simulations are performed under operational load conditions in closed and opened bustie mode. Finally, a practical situation is analyzed with the occurrences of a three-phase and a ground-phase short circuit at the low voltage switchboard. The way these faults propagate through the entire electrical system with the high voltage busbars connected is observed.
