In this work, we have presented an application to estimate the speed of a vehicle plying on the road. The outcome of our work can be a very important application to control traffic and checking if any vehicle is crossing their speed limit in the road. We have implemented our work by using image processing and vehicle recognition techniques to find out the speed of a vehicle on the road. In our proposed system, we have used a stationary camera; in particular, we shall use cameras or CCTV cameras installed on the road. Those cameras can be connected via wide area networks to watch and measure the speed of the vehicles on the road. MATLAB functions are used to process the image. Our contribution will be a helpful guideline for those who want to study on video analysis using image processing. This work can further help to reduce the tendency of over speeding of the vehicles.
