A thruster is a propulsive device used in aerospace domain to launch satellites. The current conventional thrusters work on liquid fuels. There are several disadvantages with this concept. The current liquid propulsion system works with the fuel consisting of mixture of hydrocarbon which is carried along with the propulsion module of the spacecraft. This adds up to the weight of the rocket hence more thrust is required to push the spacecraft therefore consuming more power. Secondly the combustion of the convention rocket fuel releases Aluminium oxide and many acidic gases such as hydrogen chloride which is harmful for the environment. This gave way to the development of the ionic propulsion thruster. An ion thruster is a form of electric propulsion used for spacecrafts. It creates thrust by accelerating ions using electricity. An ion thruster ionizes a neutral gas by extracting some electrons from the atoms, creating cloud of positive ions.
