A simple and robust self-seeded scheme for simultaneous realization of chirp compensation and single-mode operation was demonstrated using a linearly chirped fibre Bragg grating (LCFBG) external cavity. Chirp-reduced single-mode gigahertz picosecond pulses with a sidemode suppression ratio better than 35 dB were achieved.
