In emergency crisis, the receiving antenna must be deployable, transportable and repointable. To get these necessities, a beam-steerable planar antenna is to be designed which should resonate at a frequency of 14-14.5 GHz. A 4×4 microstrip patch array antenna is designed for emergency communications for the required frequency. The structure is designed from a single element to sixteen elements. A defected ground structure is inserted for beam steering capability. The Parameters such as return loss (S11), Gain (dB), Radiation Pattern, beam width, current surface density for number of elements and defected ground structure are observed.
