We have investigated the dependence of the slope efficiency of InAsP-GaInP strain-compensated 1.3 /spl mu/m MQW electroabsorption waveguide modulators on the device length. The tradeoff between efficiency and bandwidth distinctly favors electroabsorption modulators over lithium niobate modulators.
