A diffractive short-cavity quantum-well Fabry-Perot is a planar photorefractive quantum-well thin film that uses multiple internal reflections to produce the largest diffraction efficiencies possible from photorefractive quantum well structures. In contrast to multiple-beam interference effects in transmission quantum-well electro-optic modulators, which produce only moderate enhancements in modulated intensity, the diffractive Fabry-Perot yields nearly an order-of-magnitude enhancement. Therefore, we demonstrate that a moderate enhancement in differential transmission by the Fabry-Perot produces dramatic enhancements in diffraction.
