In conventional setups, power factor correction (PFC) for wireless power transfer systems typically involves utilizing a boost converter. However, this article introduces a novel approach by proposing primary side converter phase shift control for power factor correction in bidirectional wireless power transfer applications. The primary phase shift angle in this approach is responsible for regulating the battery charging current/voltage within the Series-series compensated Wireless bidirectional Power Transfer (BDWPT) system. The innovative primary side phase shift control eliminates the need for chopper/boost converter circuits for PFC, streamlining the circuit complexity. Additionally, the bidirectional power flow becomes feasible with the phase-synchronized converter. These systems integrate various functionalities, including PFC, current shaping, Total Harmonic Distortion, and power management, all under a single control mechanism based on duty-cycle control that operates in close proximity to the resonance frequency. The BDWPT system is meticulously designed and simulated using the MATLAB/Simulink model. Also, the experimental investigations are performed to validate the developed model.
