Summary form only given. It has been demonstrated in many recent studies that the dispersion management (DM) technique can significantly improve the capacity of soliton-based telecommunication systems. The most advantageous appears to be the regime of strong DM, where the average dispersion is much less than the local one. In this regime, the effect of third-order dispersion (TOD) can become quite appreciable, especially as the pulse becomes shorter with increasing bit rate. In this work, we study the effect of TOD on DM solitons and find conditions under which the DM soliton is nearly unaffected by the TOD.
