The purpose of a vehicle suspension system is to balance the tradeoff between ride quality and handling performance. This is achieved by controlling the relative position and motion between the vehicle body and wheels in order to reduce the effects of variations in the road profile. Good handling requires a stiff suspension to maintain tire contact with the road. On the other hand, good ride requires a soft suspension to isolate the vehicle body from the undesirable vibrational energy imparted by the road. Fuzzy logic based controllers provide the best tradeoff between ride quality and handling performance. The proposed control structures are typically based on some combination of the body velocity, wheel velocity, and suspension. The basic operation of a fuzzy controller (FLC) follows: (1) Fuzzification of real-world inputs using the fuzzy sets, (2) Application them to the rule base, (3) Defuzzification them into the crisp control action of actuator. This project describes the fuzzy solution to the problem of the vehicle suspension system. The subjective nature of suspension system design lends itself well to the use of a heuristically developed, fuzzy controller, because actually, performance of suspension system is the subjective judgement of the customer. Therefore the new system will provide the better trade-off between good ride quality and good handling performance.<>
