The operational impact of using head-up display (HUD) with localizer guidance in lieu of Centerline Lights (CLL) in low visibility conditions were of principal interest for this study. From a human factors perspective, the analyses indicated that Flight Technical Error (FTE) scores while using HUD localizer takeoff guidance without CLL were equal to or less than the corresponding FTE scores with CLL at the RVRs used for this research. The research was conducted on a Boeing 737-800NG Level D simulator at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flight Technologies and Procedures Division facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
