Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are widely used in avionics equipment, and it is of great significance to explore the FPGA airworthiness system and design path for the development of the field of Chinese civil aircraft avionics. Based on the study of airworthiness standards, design assurance guidelines, and classical methods of electronic hardware, this paper combines the actual development process for airborne FPGAs to produce two results: Firstly, the airworthiness system for FPGAs, in which a series of standards around "complex electronic hardware" and their interrelationships are presented. It is an index of FPGA airworthiness standards; the second is an airworthiness design path for FPGA, which describes in detail the inputs and outputs of the entire FPGA design process, and can be used as a framework for managing the development process. The airworthiness system and design path are references in airworthiness development and certification of avionics equipment containing FPGAs.
