one of the important aspects of road safety is Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) which is an emerging field in intelligent transport system. Broadcast is a fundamental operation for communication in infrastructure less, self-organizing ad hoc network. The challenges that exist in setting up of VANET are traffic conditions, network congestion, delay etc., while taking care of passenger comfort and safety. This paper is focused on the concept of road safety through creation of VANET using hardware unit referred to as event warning Electronic Control Unit (ECU). This uses proposed broadcast protocol to flood the emergency message packets in a controlled way over to the intended group of vehicles. The proposed protocol selects intended vehicles based on the bearing angle and the position of the relay vehicles relative to source vehicle. The proposed broadcast protocol is simulated in ns-2.35 for performance evaluation. The simulation shows desired behavior of the network formed through the proposed protocol.
