Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is expected to be a promising solution in next generation cellular technologies to efficiently provide connectivity over a wide area with low-cost. This paper proposes a gamified participatory D2D (GP-D2D) communication for encouraging mobile users to appropriately activate access point (AP) functions with their mobile devices. It is implied that gamification is an effective approach for encouraging autonomous D2D communication if the game-settings such as gain mechanisms are appropriately defined.
