Transmission problems cannot be neglected in designing routing algorithms for wide area transparent WDM networks. While in the case of routing based on the wavelength path scheme, the transmission issues are not important if we use a bit rate greater than 622 Mb/s; they have to be considered either in the case of the adoption of the virtual wavelength path scheme or of the use of partial virtual wavelength path scheme.
