Today's driving extends beyond transportation to an activity of managing information in continuously varying driving speeds, weather and environments. Based on a driver study from Transport Canada, we address the problem of the mode of interaction of driver vehicle interface (DVI's) by presenting an interface that maximizes the representation of the information by enabling end drivers to switch representation of information as they drive in a city or a highway. We focus on driver's visual inspection and time spent on looking at instruments with tasks of low and high levels of difficulty. We conclude that an effective mode of interaction will allow end drivers to manage more information while avoiding distractions.
