Vehicles with Automatic Transmission (AT) have a transmission shifter position labeled "Park". During "Park" position component such as actuator bracket, park pawl, park gear, actuator and actuator rod plays important role to immobilize the vehicle from rolling forward and backward. This paper explains method for structural optimization of an actuator bracket with two different objective functions and its effect. A simplified model is solved using gradient based optimization algorithm in FEM. Objective functions for bracket optimization are to maximize the bracket stiffness and minimize mass of bracket. Different bracket designs are obtained due to influence of objective functions, manufacturing and design constraint on the local and global stiffness of the bracket. This work of topology optimization process is presented to obtain an optimal design of an actuator bracket. Different designs are compared based on weight and component performance parameters. This study does not cover the nonlinear effect in the bracket analysis.
