This article presents a stator core loss suppression method for a rotor flux-switched permanent magnet (RFSPM) machine by reconfiguring rotor permeance. By analyzing the sources of PM losses and armature losses in the stator, the main rotor permeance harmonics that generate stator core losses are identified. Then, stator core loss is suppressed by reconfiguring the rotor permeance by a specific rotor design, which reduces the main flux densities that generate losses. In addition, the rotor surface shaping design can effectively reduce the torque ripple of the machine. The feasibility of the method was verified by comparing and analyzing the electromagnetic performance of the proposed rotor structure with the original structure. Finally, the reliability of the method is verified by prototype manufacturing and experiments under no-load and load conditions.
