Recent technological advancements and communications that have evolved in the last decade have motivated new research on vehicle platooning (VP), thus contributing to traffic efficiency, safety, fuel reduction and carbon emissions. The experimental setup consisted of myRIOs, a customized electric car and a two-wheeler, LabVIEW environment. The initial experimental results are simulated by placing two myRIOs at a distance of 5 m, after which the average latency is estimated. Similarly, these two myRIOs are placed in an electric car or two-wheeler, respectively. The electric car is moved 5 m, and latencies are calculated in a similar way. The simulation results and field test results conducted in this work demonstrate the effectiveness of myRIO in VP applications. The average latency obtained from the simulation when both myRIOs are placed at 5 m is 0.2052 s, and from the field test, the average latency is found when two vehicles are at a distance of 5 m is 0.233s, thus drawing the conclusion thus, Wi-Fi can be considered a communication medium for vehicle platooning applications.
