In this paper, we focus on a new activity estimation method of pedestrians with coordination between intersections in P-VCASS. In this method, it is assumed that pedestrians always confirm whether the vehicle is coming before crossing. But pedestrians act variously in actual traffic environment, so it is difficult to adapt to cases that pedestrians pay no attention to confirm whether the vehicle is coming. By focusing on the problem of texting while walking, we propose a new detection method without cameras that are used in the various previous studies. In this paper, we detect texting while walking by using the smartphone’s posture and the inclination of his head. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method by experiments. We show that the proposed method can detect texting while walking with 77.5% of accuracy.
