Nowadays the development of Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is one of the major research area under automobile sector. HEV is a combination of an internal combustion engine and electric motor, which still has a drawback of harmful gas emissions. The torque produced is also a concern for the design and control of HEV. This paper reviews the drawback of various internal combustion engines and electric propulsion combinations used in Hybrid Electric Vehicle based on their performance characteristics.
