In a country like India, almost all of the vehicles on road uses internal combustion(IC) engine. Pollution and diminishing fossil fuel reserves has triggered a slow but administered shift back to electric vehicles. In 2015, the government of India devised plans to promote hybrid and electric vehicles in India. But even today, hybrid and electric vehicles fail to impress a vast majority of population. One reason for this is the high cost for conversion to hybrid or electric vehicle. Another reason being the low range of electric vehicles compared to IC engined vehicles. To cope with these challenges and to better utilize the existing IC engines, hybrid electric power-train is used. This paper focuses on controller design for conversion of IC engined vehicle into a hybrid electric one using after-market electric motor and its accessories. The objective of proposed work is to deliver a cheaper and better retrofit design for converting existing vehicles to hybrid-electric. It is also ensured that the proposed design does not create high cost and time overhead to the consumer. The sensor designs, the controller limits and actuator designs will be explored in a practical sense for a three wheeler.
