Transmission spectrums and losses of the different kinds of the planar photonic crystal (PhC) waveguides and tapers are calculated and compared. Some of these components have been fabricated and measured. The most efficient type of the taper is one based on the photonic band-gap (PBG) effect and waveguide with widened core region.
