This paper provides an overview about different types of Smart Electro Hydraulic Actuators (EHA). The differences between the individual actuator concepts, including strengths and weaknesses, will be described. It will explain the most suitable applications for Electro Hydraulic Actuation as well as the applications for which this technology is not the first choice. Also, it provides examples of EHA applications for primary flight control, landing gear actuation, wind energy and transportation application.
