Summary form only given. We report on a phase matched source of femtosecond pulses widely tunable from 9 to 18 /spl mu/m at variable repetition rate. Using a 13-fs cavity dumped Ti:sapphire laser, leads to higher average power and pulse energies. The wavelength range is extended below 10 /spl mu/m by using a AgGaS/sub 2/ crystal. Phase matched difference frequency mixing is achieved between the components inside the broad spectrum of these laser pulses.
