In order to locate the known landing area from far distance in image captured by on-board camera roughly, the method of known landing area rough locating from far distance by matching of the real-time images with the reference image is proposed. As meanwhile, a novel image matching algorithm named DDM-SIFT (double directions matching of SIFT) is presented, and rough location estimation is achieved under the scaling orthographic projection model. The digital simulation result shows that the method is easy to fulfill and can point out the rough relative location of the known landing area within the tolerable precision.
