The study focuses on numerical modelling and feasibility assessment of a novel Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) using Thermoelectric Coolers (TECs) for electric two-wheeler battery packs. The response of the system under different driving behaviours is tested and compared to conventional cooling systems. The results show that the proposed BTMS with TEC cooling can outperform natural convection and ambient liquid cooling in terms of cooling effectiveness. To enhance energy efficiency, a simple feedback controller is implemented to manage the TEC operation based on cooling requirements. The findings indicate that the controller can reduce energy consumption while maintaining cell temperatures within safe limits but also pose some limitations regarding the determination of optimal operating TEC current for different conditions, requiring further investigation.
