We have experimentally demonstrated that a fibre grating laser which can be repeatedly tuned within a range of 12nm by applying up to 61W electrical power to a platinum-coated output coupling fibre Bragg grating. This tuning technique demonstrates the feasibility of a compact and power efficient tunable source which is suitable for use in multi-channel DWDM systems. In addition, we also illustrated that the natural convection process must be considered when designing this type of tunable devices.
