This paper presents the design and implementation of a Modified Independent Modal Space Control (MIMSC) method for vibration suppression of multiple-input multiple-output asymmetrical resonant structures. The proposed method offers several important features over its classical counterpart. It can control any number of modes with a fixed number of sensors and actuators, reduces the computation load involved with the classical method, and provides flexible configurations to arrange the required input/output signals for controlling individual modes. Using a unique model module, the proposed method is potentially applicable to large-scale systems with distinctive vibration characteristics. The effectiveness of the proposed MIMSC method is validated via simulation and experimental studies on a given one-plane asymmetrical plate structure.
