Recent developments in electric vehicle (EV) technology, with major manufacturers planning to start commercial manufacturing of electric Class 8 trucks in the next years, added to the potential expansion of the ever-increasing passenger EV sector, will have an impact on how we travel and transport goods. The present study is aimed to analyze the forecasted traffic information on Arizona highways, combined with EV penetration scenarios, in order to produce geospatial information for potential energy demand associated with highway EV highway charging stations. This analysis also focuses on the potential impact of the demand on rural distribution networks and opportunities to develop local generation systems to supply this new energy demand.
