This paper investigates timing and frequency synchronization applicable for filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) systems. Filtering and symbol overlap make designing a training period that has a specific block pattern quite difficult. To address this, a receiver architecture that exploits synchronization structure in a simple way is proposed. Specifically, the receiver performs observation windowing and weighted correlation processes in order to overcome the problems from overlap and filtering, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves accurate synchronization while utilizing a minimum of resources.
