Low-cost WDM transceivers are needed for LAN. InGaAs PIN photodiodes detect the light. A multichannel integrated receiver IC amplifies and quantizes the received signal. The transmitter optical subassembly consists of 4 DFB lasers and a silicon V-groove chip robotically aligned to a planar waveguide combiner.
