Based on the large nonlinear coefficient of periodically poled LiNbO/sub 3/, the mid-infrared radiations can be efficiently converted into visible/near-infrared photons for sensitive detection. The up-conversion efficiency, acceptance bandwidth and the optimal pump wavelength are investigated.
