Efficiency of broadly used camera-based traffic law enforcement systems depends on weather conditions. Radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology may increase these systems efficiency. It is required to integrate many different camera-based systems with RFID readers to implement the RFID technology in traffic law enforcement. The distributed application platform controlling all the RFID readers and easing the task of RFID readers integration is presented in this paper. The distributed platform consists of different components allowing to read tags, filter and transform them into the license plates numbers, manage readers from a single administrator console and connect to the system from police cars or control centres. The system allows to use various EPC Class 1 Generation 2 RFID radio modules and can seamlessly interconnect hundreds of RFID-readers. The large-scale experiment project of implementing RFID-based vehicle identification technology running in Kazan city, Russia, is also described.
