We present the design for a kilowatt step-tunable terahertz gyrotron oscillator. Using a high field magnet, several kilowatts of power are expected to be generated up to 500 GHz and hundreds of watts from 500 to 1,000 GHz, through operation in several fundamental and second harmonic modes. Application areas include materials processing, biochemistry, imaging, plasma diagnostics, and remote sensing.
