In Indian rails the AC is supplied into the trains via the three phase overhead transmission lines situated above the train. The supply is then collected by the pantograph which connects the overhead transmission lines and the internal grid system of the train. Inside the train the AC is converted to DC for the DC motor, lighting and for other DC appliances. The proposed converter is designed for rectifying and boosting the three phase AC supply with power factor correction for the internal applications of the train. Since DCM is mode, the converter is being operated in, there is no need for input sensors which will reduce the cost and weight of the converter significantly. An experimental model of 80-watt 3 phase buck and boost converter is designed for confirming the operations of the converter along with the simulation output.
