A 160-to-10 Gbit/s demultiplexer for optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems is reported, exploiting four wave mixing (FWM) in one meter of bismuth oxide-based fiber, with a nonlinear coefficient of 1250 W/sup -1/ km/sup -1/. The effectiveness of such short fiber span is demonstrated by means of bit error rate (BER) measurements.
