This paper presents a realization scheme of automatic natural color mapping for FLIR images based on a natural color transfer technique. This color transfer technique proceeds in a decorrelated color space. In the realization scheme, firstly, we set a natural color image database, which includes different kinds of patterns, and each color image in this database has a feature vector; secondly, the target FLIR image is processed based on texture pattern recognition, and each pixel in the FLIR image belongs to a pattern, then each pixel will have the best matching pixel in the color image database; finally, the chromaticity values of the best matching pixel in the color image are transferred to the corresponding pixel in the FLIR image. The experiment results demonstrated the efficiency of this natural color transfer technique.
